Forgive me if this has been asked before, but if you're looking to buy a new car, whether new or used, these days should you get a diesel - I gather they're to be outlawed in the not-too-distant future - or an electric one?

Good, you can sort that out by going on a decent run & clear out the Filter.
I’m still marvelling at Islay’s driving dogs!
If there's any chance you can get catch-up to the Jeremy Vine show on R2 yesterday they had a 30 minute slot with varying opinions. It was damage to the environment that seemed to bother most anti-diesellers.
Rover and the boxer.
;-)
diesels are bad news... talk of charging to go into town with a diesel ..like congestion charge...
Hang around a few years though, they'll be back in fashion once a new intake of experts gets their turn.

Still got the Beemer TWR?
Murray xx, it's another way to fleece the motorist, what good would the town be without the motorist, they get hit in every possible way for revenue.
nobody in their right mind wants to take a car into Edinburgh city... complete nightmare..park and ride is the answer here !
Do the trams work yet Minty?
On our last visit to your City Murray we left the car outside the B&B & walked 20 mins up to the City, mind you the weather was good.
You don't spend a billion quid on eight miles of light railway for it not to work. :)
Most of the time.
I appear to being called a liar again!
I now only fill my car twice whilst before I was filling it 3-4 times a month, my road tax is slightly cheaper and my insurance is significantly cheaper hence the savings each month!
Tram is trundling by..not going anywhere not already well served by bus..and a bleeping nuisance !!

best to walk in if you can TWR ..or buy a day pass for unlimited bus hopping !!
Sorry for my late reply Murray, yes you are correct but it's getting like that every City the public travel to, we last used ythe Park / Ride in Oxford many moons ago.
I meant to say the cost of parking.
An all-electric car would be a huge disaster. From day one, you gaze will be fixed on the battery monitor, rather than the road ahead.....electric cars a probably OK for milk floats but not for everyday use.

Perhaps you should go for a hybrid, petrol-battery model.
