Need to change O/S rear tyre

N/S rear is at about 3mm

Would you change the N/S rear as well at the same time ?

Having read Dave's link I think that, for my particular driving style/habits I will continue to fit new tyres to the front of my FWD car.
I think it's also important to point out that on a FWD car the rear tyres last 3 to 4 times as many miles as the front tyres. This means that if you are a low-mileage motorist there is a real chance of the rear tyres exceeding their sell-by date (5 to 7 years) before the tread wears out. As tyres age the rubber changes and performance degrades as well as the risk of the tyres disintegrating - only tyre wear is normally taken into account when tyres are declared illegal but perhaps it's time that a time limit was placed on them as well.

Search for new tyres front or rear. There are plenty of videos demonstrating the problems of high speed slides with the two different options.

The chance of me getting into a high-speed slide is negligible compared to needing traction or straight-line braking.
