Assuming that you're doing it to demist the windscreen and it's a fact that dry air demists more effectively I can see it being a deliberate setting by Jaguar. What does the handbook say?

My Mazda does this as well, as per bhg it is deliberate

Yes, selecting screen only usually does activate the air conditioning.

Its a 'feature'! Same happens on my Ford van, car and DAF truck!
