Motorways are NOT like dual carriage ways. Anyone who has driven thousands of miles on them will know that.

Apart from the junction issue as written above there is also the way a motorway can come to a grinding halt for no apparent reason - extremely fast. The M25 is a right *** for that.

In addition with multiple lanes on motorways inexperienced motorists often fail to check correctly when moving from one lane to another as there is the additional lane to watch and anticipate it. Seen that hundreds of times.

Anyone who thinks Motorways are glorified dual carriageways need some more tuition.

Not all Motorways are three plus lane of course, some are two.
spath, drivers need to learn to drive - hence the proposal to take those of test ability on to motorways which the powers that be appear to deem beneficial..... and so do I.

YMB, //Anyone who thinks Motorways are glorified dual carriageways need some more tuition. //

I absolutely agree - which is why I said drivers need to learn to drive.

/// Dual control can't speed a car up when a lorry is coming fast
behind ///

Er, yes it could, that's what dual controls are for, but why would you let a lorry behind you dictate what speed you drive at, they either drive at whatever speed you're doing or they overtake.
spath, you're sounding like a very dangerous driver.
You clearly have not driven on Motorways much(if at all) Spath or you would not make such a daft comment.

Oh well when you have piled into the back of a queue on one maybe you will take heed.

spath, the only personal insults here have come from you. By virtue of your age you are a relatively new driver – what is it two, three years? Others have far more experience – including the people who make the rules. Listen and learn.

/// How could it do that with only a break and a clutch? ///

Ah ok,

Brake.
spath, suggesting experienced drivers, who happen to disagree with you, that they need to do a re-test is insulting.
The Institute of Advanced Motorists recommended that young drivers be given more experience on the motorways pre test and early post test.

Driving is like any other skill - passing the test is one thing, acquiring valuable experience is quite another.
