Advice On Driving An Automatic Car Please (Uk)

After 30 odd years of driving a manual car for medical reasons I have to have an automatic. I need advice please from those users who drive automatics.
I know to put my foot on the brake,select D and on my test drive it went quite fast when I took myself off the brake. My question is how do you get it to creep if needed such as junctions,creeping forward until you can see if anything is coming.
? Is it a case of taking my foot on and off the brake to get it to move slowly. Please tell me.

Go to a driving school, and ask for tuition on automatic cars.

If you think about it you will do exactly the same with your right foot as you've always done, Throttle and Brake.
As there is no clutch pedal you just don't use your left foot.

no need for that bookbinder, it's much simpler to drive than a manual. I fact it amazes me that anyone wants a manual car for the road.

Rest your left foot on the dash, where the old fashioned ash tray used to be

I’ve just bought an automatic. It creeps at quite a speed.
Took some getting used to as the gear stick is on the steering column, but I love it, and I’m never buying a manual again.

I've got a DSG box on the Audi - which gives me a number of automatic modes, as well as the option of clutchless manual (via the flappy paddles on the steering wheel).

Most days it ambles along in "D" or "S" depending on my mood - but the fully manual option is good fun on backroads.

I paid a few buttons (OK about £60) for a 'Hold' button option - when this is engaged there is no creep at all when stationary - very useful in stop/start traffic as you don't need to keep your foot on the brake all the time when stopped.

I agree that I won't voluntarily go back to a 'normal' stickshft box - provided I can afford this type of enhanced automatic.
