I forgot to add that Section 165 of the same Act provides for police officers to require the name and address of any person they see driving, or whom they suspect of driving a motor vehicle. They must also give the name and address of the vehicle's owner (if it is not them). They are also required to produce their licence, insurance certificate and MoT certificate on demand though they will not be prosecuted if they produce the said documents within seven days. This once again confirms there is no need to carry any documents when driving.
