Does the above come with a foot pump? Youngest has just bought a three year old one, first car he’s owned, and we’re keen to point him in the right direction for maintaining it regarding safety. Can’t get any sense out of him about a foot pump though.

My wife has a new model and I dont think theres a foot pump...never been one on any car I've owned..you can buy one for a few quid or use a decent 12v compressor.

Can't help you I'm afraid regarding a foot pump but I wouldn't have thought so. I can recommend Halfords 'essential tyre inflator' though for £10/12 on ebay, a little more from the shop itself. I have one and it's great.
A friend of mine has a 3 yr old Qashquai and absolutely loves it and has had no problems with it.

foot pumps have never ever come with any cars i bought, either new or 2nd hand

I've never heard of a car coming with a foot pump; even in the early days, when cars came with a rudimentary toolkit there was no footpump. Cars delivered with no spare wheel usually come with an emergency repair kit which includes an electric pump.

I would not have thought so, never heard of any car being supplied with foot pump. I have something similar to this checking / inflating tyres.

You can top up your tyres at most filling stations for 50p. Better to get your own (accurate) pressure gauge though than rely on the garage ones.

If the Qashqai is a 4wd model it's important to change both tyres on the same axle at the same time or the drive can suffer damage.

Yeah, we know about maintaining cars but as I say he knows very little as he’s only ever used hire cars, so we’re keen to ‘suggest’ things, or buy things for him, to help. You know what these youngsters are like, know it all but actually don’t! Was thinking about a scraper for frost too as it’s kept parked in the road.

^^and tell him how to use the ice-scraper properly....in one direction only, away from you. Scraping back and forward (like most people do) causes tiny scratches which you'll see inlow sunshine or oncoming headlights.

I always carry GOOD jump leads; you can buy cheap ones but the cables can be thin and not wholly cooper and can let you down when you need them.

Without sounding and making it childish what you could do is write a weekly maintenance list as a memory jogger till he gets the hang of it. We used to do it with our drivers. Just a list check oil, water, tyre pressures, windscreen washer level, etc.

I use the air pump facility at the garage when I fill up with petrol, and check oil and windscreen washer at home. Save you money for when he needs new tyres!

Just a comment...the only car I have ever heard of that came with a pump (actually similar to a stirrup pump) and 28 piece toolkit, including a set of feeler gauges and a piece of rubber hose to bleed the brakes(!), was my Dads old(early '90s) Lada Riva. Apparently the manufacturers assumed owners would live in the middle of nowhere with no access to a mechanic and do all their own servicing etc!

Bit off topic but my first new car was a H reg Lada 1200 saloon followed by a Lada 1500 Estate and then a Lada Riva Estate.
All had a comprehensive tool kit including tyre levers,tyre pressure gauge (still possess that and very accurate)and as well as loads of spanners ,both open and box, a Tyre pump.
