//Tap your brake lightly a few times to warn the tailgater that you are slowing down. Brake slowly before stopping. Avoid tailgaters when possible by changing lanes. If you cannot change lanes, slow down enough to encourage the tailgater to go around you.//

Exactly. The idea that you should speed up to avoid being tailgated is ludicrous. Even more so is the notion that it might somehow be a defence to a speeding allegation. However, the biggest mystery of all is why anyone reading this thread would want to make an application for a Visa to visit the Maldives. Even more puzzling is why anyone would make an such an application in advance and pay $45 for it as a 30 day tourist visa is issued free of charge on arrival.
And just as I post this the spam reply has been removed!
Whether right or wrong, I have in the past turned on my hazard lights for a few seconds, to make it known to the tailgater that I am concerned about his or her idea of a safe distance, a little bit safer than trying to light up brake lights.

Defensive driving (Road Traffic Centre at Thornton near Reading) recommends using your windscreen spray. With you moving, the water passes over your roof and splatters the car behind......this sends a message about being too close.
I slow down, but understand the risk taken of getting hit in the back. Speeding up, in order to get out of the idiot's way soonest, is less risky.
It sends the message that you need to fix your washer jets.
13.46 Yep, MOT failure.
Tailgating is a serious offence as it has led to many accidents. I’ve been shunted twice and let me tell you, I did not like it up me. Also you have the cash for crash brigade. I would like to tie them to my bonnet and drive close to a combined harvester.
Dash cam is the only protection now, front and back.
