I went to my car this morning to find that probably a small stone had cracked my windscreen about 12" long..I got in touch with my insurance and their repairers can't come till Thursday, will it be ok/safe to drive till then? thanks!
If you have the cover on your insurance, Autoglass will repair and deal with your Insurance Company direct on your behalf.
Might be worth giving them a call, could get done quicker.
The screen will have to be replaced, so if you have a heated window or built in camera it will probably need 2 people and take maybe 3 hours including setting time for sealant , so in my experience it's unlikely they'll be able to fit that in earlier, but I agree it may be quicker to ring Autoglass direct- that's what I did
I'd have thought it was safe in the short term. The glass will have a layer internally to stop sharp bits etc.. At your own risk though. Will your insurers be ok with you making a claim and making your own arrangements though ?
You need to check the conditions of your insurance policy. Some companies insist on a particular repairer, usually Autoglass, and using a different company might incur a higher excess for you to pay (I think mine is £80 with Autoglass and £200 if another company).
Where is the crack? If it's across your line of vision I'd be more wary than if it's at the passenger side. The lamination will prevent any chance of the screen falling out or chunks of glass coming off but a serious crack across your line of vision might upset the police.
