No insurance is 6-9 points and a max fine in the 1000's. As you are a student they may choose to fine you a small amount and ban you as well. Also depends what other points you have. No insurance is generally severly dealt with, do not be suprised to be off the road for at least 3 months.

Ok thankyou for the reply, im not sure if you will know this but when you have to fill in a means form showing your income etc. should i enclose the loan and grant i have recieved, along with wages i recieve from my part time job whilst at uni?

I was personally without insurance for a week, and just didnt realise. Mainly due to ignorance of Insurance policys. The MOT had ran out and I was still driving the car while it was being repaired upto MOT standard, so even though i was insured, i wasn't covered legally.

I have no sympathy for non insured drivers and the courts (thankfully) dont either. Ignorance is no excuse. I hope you get a big fine and i dont care if you are poor student - you should not - repeat should not have been driving and in my opinion you should go to prison. I cant believe you are trying to weazle out of paying a fine because you are a student. Take it like a grown up!
hanging sounds like a good idea

Ihave no sympathy at all for you in fact the opposite.

It is not just to pay for dents and scratches it might be the cost of keeping someone on life support for many years. Can you afford that on your student grant ? Who is going to pay then ?

iantosca, take a look at the links to the right of this thread, and dont bloody do it again !.

Thankyou for all the opinions posted, i know i was in the wrong and not to justify my actions but the car insurance was not renewed (a week before) simply because i was selling the car whilst being at uni. To Gary Baldy... i am not trying to weasle my way out of payng a fine, i was just hoping for a opinion on what fine may be given due to my situation.

Take whatever the court throw at you. By all means put all documentation in front of the court regarding your means I.e. loan agreements etc.

Most of all learn from this lesson. I drive many thousands of miles every year and I like to know that if I am involved in an accident that all parties are insured.

I already pay an addtional 50 a year into a pot to cover idiots like you who drive around with no insurance.

Personally I think you should have your vehicle removed and destroyed and you should lose the priviledge of owning a driving licence for some time.

you shouldnt even have the brass neck to come on here and ask advice. You knew when you bought car to keep your documents in order . What would have happened if you had totally written someones car off or worse still killed some one. people like you make me angry we have to remember so there is no point in coming with excuses.

iantosca - i have had to post again to explain that my earlier comment was completely 'tongue in cheek' - im sure that when you are through this little saga, you will realise (if not already) that the cheapest, easiest, and most sensible way to go about driving a vehicle on the road is to do it legitimitely, some of us have been in your situation, some havent, some have always been in the financial situation where they have never had to and some have been on the sh1tty end of an uninsured driver accident situation, but nobody on here really knows your situation and where you are coming from and why you drove etc. so dont take it to heart.

What im trying to say is, im not gonna sit here and pretend to be god or the chief of police and im sure you are in enough cr@p for me not to have to, as i said the first time, get a good brief and (for your own sake and everyone elses- dont do it again) !.

Cars are cr@p. Ride a bicycle!
Do you know what? I think you're all a bucnh of ignorant morans who just don't get the point that paying insurance means sponsoring the lives of those fu&&king politics!!!

I am 20, have an RX7 with 550 BHP under my bonnet, and this is far not the first time in my life I'm driving a fast car. I know how to and I am able to drive this car and be safe on the road. My insurance costs me 12000 fu""king pounds. Now, I'd rather drive without it than pay this ridiculous amount of money for nothing!!! AND!!!, If i only had to pay it once than yeah, cool, but if I didn't crash or hit anyone why am I supposed to pay it next year again???!!! If I kill anyone, or hit somebody;s car, I have more than enough cash to pay that sad fu""ker that I hit. I don't need that damn insurance for that. So iantosca, F''k em, don't pay anything, just get yourself Russian driviing licence, and a numberplate and drive anywhere and kick ****.
Hi , i came across this board and was interested in what reply people would give , and streight up a lot of people have shown a lot on anger. I am a financial analyst for a large insurance company , i deal with generating functions which would calculate insurance premiums for ranges of individuals and forcasting company profits. When it comes to claims every year about 60% of all money paid by the company is to 5% of the claiments , so in general you are really paying charity to those who have an accident or if you have one yourself. The most interesing figure is money paid towards party damage is only 30%, in general it means that 70% of your premium goes towards administration fees to lawyers and people who work for the company , most profits that are made are given as bonuses to me and other executives.

Recently there has been an overwheliming amount of personal injury claims which are mostly overpaid for, ususaly because there is a need to settle claims quickly , otherwise lawyer fees build up in negotitaitons , and the company looses money.

Uninsured driver cases usually go through the MIB . Contrary to whats been said , your premium is only raised on average by 3 pounds to fund the mib , the reason for that is , if the uninsured driver is traced the driver would have to pay at least 80% of the amount owed to the MIB.Recently there was a case of a wounded pedestrian who was awarded 120,000 pounds for permanent injuries , the uninsured was heavily taxed on his wages and any bank account (s) he/she holds.

<<<continued............

From a legal point of view , it makes no sense to send an uninsured driver to prison , it would cost too much money. Every year in the uk around 250,000 uninsured drivers are cought , the fines paid by these drivers amount to 100 Million us pounds + recently around 20 million a year is made by private impound companies who retain seized vehicles.

The truth is , there will always be uninsured drivers , and that means $$$ for goverment funds which is NOT returned as tax credits, like there will always be speed cameras and traffic wardens. Infact before before any uninsured driver is cought , there is a forecast of a minimum amount of cash that needs to made. If you are given 6 penaly points , expect your premium to rise by at least 20% , which is dollar for the company which i work for.

So for those of you complaining about paying for insurance , without uninsured drivers , you would have higher taxes and your insurance premiums would become higher since uninsured drivers are ususaly bad drivers , and with their record no one would actually want to insure them in the first place.

Finally for those of you fully insured , well done , i need your cash to go in my wallet , after all , after working for 3 years in my company i need a bonus of at least 200,000k this christmas , not to mention for my salary.

So for those people who dont expect the world to be hard knock , YOU are the ones in prison right now .

ps(i dont drive an expensive car just incase i get hit by an uninsured driver)

Hiya...if you havent attended court yet.. you willprobably receive 6 points and up to 250 fine plus court costs of about 35 .. if you havent been driving that long then you may have to take your driving test again which everyone on here is hoping you have to...for anyone out there who is a poor student.. or whatever.. i sugest you dont drive without insurance and log on to www.norwichunion.co.uk and click motor insurance and then short term insurance you can have 24 hour cover for 10.50..
i personaly in similar position now. i was waiting for my pass pluss tocome through so didnt have insurance. got cought without it, now dunno whats gonna happen, because car wasnt mine. im a student and just dont have money to get insurance with criminal record cos thats just way too much. i think i prob will get a car eastern european plates and insurance. insurance in uk is ridiculus. its at least 10 times bigger than in other countries and all that just to fill up rich ppl pockets with even more money. i honestly rather get some russian insurance for 50 quid per year than pay thounsands.
the exsact thing happend to me and i went to court and they gave me 8 endorsements on my licence and 325 fine and i was an 18year old girl with no criminal record i doubt the fact ur a student will effect the amount ur fined but if you plead you work part time or have little money they may lower the fine if not give you a payment plan of a minimum 30 to a maximum of your choice. hope this was informative for ya lol
