it costs over £140 to fill my Audi (A6 Allroad 3.0TDi), but an 80 litre tankful can get me about 700 miles

Glad you like it Ellipsis, I think that deserves a BA!

nescio, remember this?

Still not dear enough TTT. Needs to double to get people off the road, out of my way and make driving a pleasure again.

Nice motor TTT.

it's a start though YMB!
You'll be a bit P'd off about the popularity of EVs then YMB.
Not really, most cant afford them. And with the price rises in energy on top of a high purchase price most will be priced out.
Question Author
Zacs, EVs are still very dear but when they do become prevalent the government will have to claw back the fuel duty somehow, I think road pricing is inevitable. I have a mate who bought a Tesla Model 3 for over 50k, It's cheap to run alright but it's a lot of outlay.
The multi-billionaire who owned the drinks carton firm (I think) drove a 20 year old Volvo. And there was (is) a Volvo in New York that did over 2 million miles (just saying).
'Not really, most cant afford them. And with the price rises in energy on top of a high purchase price most will be priced out'

I'm sure electricity prices will go up but there's a helluva long way to go before they catch up with petrol/diesel making EVs more and more attractive by the day.
people will still be driving around in diesel & petrol old bangers in 50 years time
That depends on fuel prices. As fossil fuel cars decrease on the road, fuel costs will rise. There's also the government's policy on taxing polluting cars to consider.
You seem to be ignoring the overall cost ZM. And the fact you will undoubtedly pay more for leccy to charge a car. Why else the push for smart meters if not banded charging?

Anyway for the purpose of the discussion on getting people off the road the purchase price of a leccy vehicle (together with proper charging facilities) is prohibitive to most.
Mr BM wants to go and look at a new A8 tomorrow. I suggested that if he wanted to spend that sort of money he should just fill the current one up with diesel.
'You seem to be ignoring the overall cost ZM'

No, I'm not. Have a read of these:

You must have missed where I wrote

That's a good idea Hopkirk, getting a tandem, because he could then ferry me around LOL.

Togs, yes I have considered one of those but they are double the price of a normal bike. When they start getting sensible I'll probably get one.
A US tourist in Barcelona had his Hublot Black Caviar Bang watch stolen off his wrist - it cost $1 million. THAT'S "reassuringly expensive"!
