A few weeks ago the police announced that they would no longer be buying BMW cars and had stopped using certain BMW vehicles that had a known fault. Apparently one police officer had died as a result of a faulty BMW.
I don’t recall any information being given in the media as to what the fault was – but this youtube video explains that it is because they catch fire. Quite why the British press/media was unwilling to call out the poor quality of BWM vehicles is a bit strange to me.
The guy in the video also asks a pertinent question as to why our police forces are not buying British cars (or at least ones made in the UK); I doubt very much that the German police were ever driving around in Rovers.
The media is aware of this issue which appears to be BMW's decision for reasons of safety in high speed pursuits.
//In January 2022, police forces around the UK were instructed not to use the engines in high-speed pursuits due to safety concerns relating to mechanical failures…..In 2022, an inquest into the fatal accident heard that a faulty crankshaft bearing had punctured the engine oil sump, which released oil onto the road and caused a fire in the engine compartment //
Although the motoring press gave further details of the fault – I only recall the media reporting that the fault only exists when the vehicles are driven in a particular way; nothing about them catching fire.
Well, before this announcement – BMWs, and the youtube video guy seems to think the Police BMWs will be replaced by Volvos and/or VW group vehicles, none of which are built in the UK.
BMW is German.
Which British built cars would you suggest they be replaced with?
Were you aware that Rover were owned by BMW and that ownership of the original Rover Group is currently split between BMW (Germany), SAIC (China), and Tata Motors (India)?
Jaguar build the F-Pace, XE, XF, XJ, or F type (if you want something fast) and Land Rover make a range of vehicles that would be suitable for police use – all built in the UK.
ymb..I'm talking from bitter experience...when they say 'they are good off road'..little did I realise they meant thats because they are never on the road. The RR Autobiography is a beautiful car to look at ..however is a very expensive driveway ornament.
