battery replacement on escort

is there any thing i need to know ?concerned about the red coded ignition key ,,will i need to use it ,and how,thank you ,will be very grateful raymond.

Make sure you get the radio code before you replace the battery,if its anything like mine (Escort LX 1600 P Reg ) the red key had no effect but from memory it was a little awkward getting at the bracket to get at the battery,

the red key is the master key. it is used to re - program additional keys which all contain a chip. the chip is there to dis arm the built in immobilser so the car can be started. it's quite possible the cost of replacing the master key could exceed the market value of the car in the worst case scenario so look after it!
