Do new drivers have to display the "P" plate by law ??

Some countries they do, yes. Not in the UK though, as far as I know.
its not law in the uk,but you can if you feel you need or want to let other drivers know you are new to the road,my son wouldent but my daughter did,it just depends how you feel about it.

There is a different answer for anyone who lives in Northern Ireland, where I think they are compulsory.
Not sure how the law stands but most other drivers seem like they really don't give a t*** what's displayed on the car in front, unless of course its ECILOP of course....
