Charging Points For Electric Cars

In a local village there's a terrace of small houses with a pavement between them and the road.  One of the occupants has an electric car plugged into a charger on the wall of his house and he's put one of those black and yellow box strips over the wire across the pavement to tell pedestrians it's there.  It's most definitely a hazard and I'm not entirely sure he would have been given permission to do it.  So what's going to happen when we're all forced into electric cars?  I'm okay - I have a detached house with plenty of parking space but what about people like him in terraced houses with only the road to park on, or people in flats in tower blocks with little or no parking?   I don't think this rush towards electric cars has really been thought through at all.

Of course this issue has not been thought through.

It is being driven (sorry!) by government ministers who all enjoy chauffeur driven cars, and at home they have detached houses with driveways, and salaries that will allow them to buy.

When, and it will come, but not in my lfetime, batteries are AA size and last five years, people will consider investing, but until then, this is a bandwaggon that people are jumping on, although the steady decline in sales shows that the honeymoon is now over.

You're probably right TTT. We'll be like Cuba, keeping decades old vehicles on the road.

There is a vehicle that can do 30 miles on 15 pounds of hay, it's called a horse & I think we may be going back to them. 😉

16:59 not just us, the whole petrol head world!

I think the only viable way is both. Electric vehicles with a small on board engine that just charges the batteries. That way they they can go when there is no charger availability. There are some out there already.

Isn't that the new Nissan Qashqais ?

Allowing hybrids of any sort defeats the object of the exercise.

If TTT is right and people will keep their petrol and diesel cars going, I guess the authorities will massively increase fuel duties.

Do bears poo in the woods?

17:21, perhaps but the object of the execise is not feasible. People are realising that hence the sales of electric vehicles are declining. Eventually governments will come to know what the people already know.

Socialists hate people owning their own cars, however they are powered. Their dream is for everyone to have to use public transport at all times or ideally never to venture more than a couple of miles from where they live.

Electric cars are totally unnecessary. They're just for precious show-boaters and and show offs.

Battery powered car? Where do I sign?

Just a little thermal runnaway....🏃‍♀️

Here's hoping the sale of electric cars totally collapses over the next few years.

When my lease on an electric car finishes I will be buying a second hand EV.

I am of course one of the lucky ones who can charge cheaply at home, and don't deny the massive problems of charging elsewhere.

I am not a precious show-boater or a show off. I'm just saying it works very well for me.
