Christmas In The Good Old Days

I'm not often in the car with my husband but today when we were travelling in his car there was a high pitched beep every 30 seconds when he was going 70 mph or above. He can't hear it due to his hearing loss. It's a really quiet noise. What is it for?

All new cars within the EU now have to have speed limiters built into them. As we're no longer in the EU, the rule doesn't apply to cars in mainland Britain but (because of the open border with Ireland) it does apply in Northern Ireland. Further, manufacturers might choose to include speed limiters within their UK models, even if they're not forced to do so.
