What car should I get?

I'm thinking about spending 3-4K on a car, ideally nearer the 3K mark. I don't want the car to be too small (I'm 6ft) or too big (I'm a girl)! I'd like the car to be quick enough to not make me want to scream every time I try to overtake! I'm not too worried about make or whether it's petrol or diesel. Above all I'd like it to be reliable and cheap to maintain. Not worried about resale value as I'm likely to keep it a long time. Any suggestions appreciated!

In my opinion the best kept secret in affordable, reliable, cars with decent performance is the Peugeot 306 XSi. On my recommendation my father bought one last year and loves it. He paid 3,500 from a dealer for an R reg with only 50,000 odd on the clock. They are well built, go and handle really wel, and are reasonable to insure. They easily do 35 to the gallon and have room inside for four plus a big boot. I am 6ft and dont touch the headlining so I am sure you would be comfortable in it. Plus they are well equipped, nice interior with sports seats, electric windows and A/c, plus metalic paint and alloys.

You could pick up late 90s (maybe early naugties) Honda Civic 1.6iSR Coupe for that :)

FORD FOCUS 1.6 would be ideal, great to drive, plenty of room. could get good w reg for the money.

very unlikely you will be dissapointed.
