Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset the Enigne Management system and should reset any errors which have caused the light to illuminate.

Just make sure you have the radio code first !

If there is a genuine fault and it's persistent, it will illuminate again and you will need to extract the error code.

How old / how many miles is the Astra ? It sounds like something to do with the 'lambda' circuit - which monitors for oxygen content in the exhaust. If the car is getting on a bit then it might be the cat failing, otherwise it might just be in need of a bit of adjustment. If the car is fairly new - just a few years - then it should come within the guarantee. Suggest you take it to a mechanic who can hook it up to diagnostic gear. This should be very cheap, but they usually charge a fortune for it - easy money, etc.
