You could always approach the council and see if you can get residence only parking, might take while though. I can't help anymore as it might be me who wants to park outside your house but I might be persuaded to go away with the price of a car park. Do you have any front garden to turn into a parking space?
If it is a public highway then I don't think there is anything you can do, anyone has a right to park there for as long as they like.

I suppose you could pay two realy nasty looking heavys around 250 each a week to deter anyone parking outside your house. Other than that it's a free highway.

get the kerb lowered.

dont know if you are legaly required to have an actual "parking area" to have the kerb dropped though...

could be 300 well spent...

Question Author
there was already a drop kerb here when i moved in so i dont need to get it done

Put notice up then wheel clamp anyone that parks there.

wheel clampers have to be licenced now...

if the kerb has been lowered, i think you are entitled to that section of road. the local council or police should be able to advise you.

but, in my opinion a lowered kerb entitles you to access to your property 24-7 365 days of the year.

Youre wrong, Im afraid, funkymoped. This question was addressed a couple of weeks ago. See here for what was said.

I think that if you have a drop kerb in front of your house to allow you to access your property for offf road parking then you can approach the local council to have a white line painted on the road in front of your house at your cost. This is in effect a no parking zone for others and is enforcable by the Police.

judgej.

interesting link.

lets take it from a simple parking in front of mr and mrs average`s house. mr and mrs average paid the local council 300+ for the privelage of having the kerb lowered. but when the said mr and mrs average complain to the local plod and council, no one can be ar$ed to help them.....

now, just to be difficult mr and mrs average decide to park each of their cars across the council office`s private car park (but on the highway) and across the local police stations private car park. (again on the highway) how do you think the law would look at the situation ???

not picking at anyone here, just playing devils advocate.

No they don't!
Funkymoped You'll probably find that both the police and the council have double yellows across the entrances to their car parks!

Why do people post such asinine answers on here.

Only Local Authorities and the like are allowed to clamp a vehicle on the Public Highway.

It is in fact against the law to park on the road except in a designated parking place, but obvoiusly this would be very difficult to enforce.

It is obvoius that anyone with a reasonable amount of consideration would not park across someones driveway,

Run a key down the side of their car. It made me think twice about parking in my street!

As asinine (what a lovely word I havent heard that for many a year!) as the answers to this particular topic may seem, Electrochem, they are not as stupid as you think.

In the earlier string kempie eloquently covered your point about it being illegal to park anywhere and the difficulty one would have in seeing that enforced. Your last remark is indeed pertinent. But the fact is that there are many, many drivers who are not in the least bit considerate and parking across peoples driveways is a major problem in many areas.

It is a problem with which the law as it stands is not properly able to cope. It therefore formed a valid contribution to this and the earlier string as installing a dropped kerb and driveway was suggested as a remedy for the original problem.

Sorry for being so asinine Electrochem What's the weather like on the top of your ivory tower? Tell me something. Did you type your post yourself or do you have someone to do all those nasty little jobs for you??
