was the accident reported?
did you get his name at the time in question?

if you got his name then contact the police so they can investigate it , but as there was no tax i would inform the for that aswell as you could claim compensation if they are not legal to drive.

yes, got his name, said he had no fixed abode due to working in army but next day he appeared at my house with an insurance document with an address he moved from last week?!
Question Author
yes, i reported it, the police said unless he came to report the accident then they wouldnt do anything else. Also, I never told them at the time about the tax disc.

bit of a quandry for you. if you just accept his details, go through the insurance that he has produced then you may get compensation off the insurance co.

if you go to the plod and they discover he's feeding you a crock of s**t then you may not get diddly squat.

third option, don't know how you'de stand legally, get the insurance all dealt with and once your motor's mended grass him to the plod and insurance co. just don't say you knew he was iffy before you made the claim cos you'd have probly commited a crime.

if he's a squaddie he will have an id card with his army number on and his address will be an army barracks/ unit

let's get these illegal drivers off the road, they are scum and have no concern for anyone else

contact dvla and grass him for the tax disc coz many untaxed cars are uninsured/no mot/ no license/ unroadworthy

Thanks markja & slickst3r , I have everything I need now to proceed. By the way, I never received proof of ID, just his word. Showed me a card then quickly put it back in his wallet before I could even look!

I remember that when I started writing his details he said ' oh, don't bother with that, we'll sort it out later...just leaves a mobile which he never answers and a name which was on the insurance document the next day when he came round.

Big help, cheers.
