citroen exhaust system

Can anybody tell me whether or not a citroen saxo exhaust system has to include a catalytic converter in the system or can a 'go-faster' system (without cat') be fitted. Will the 'non cat' system pass its mot test?

you can get de-cat pipes that simply go where the cat does and then when your car comes up for its mot just swap it back. easy !!!

So what makes you think that the catalytic converter slows your car down?

VTR or VTS??
When the phase one saxos came out, there was so little difference in the performance that they soon started fitting constrained exhasuts on the VTR's to choke and slow them down. Replacing the Sustem wit a wider bore and a CatBack pip will give you a fair bit more power (up to 10bhp)
As I recall, the phase two VTR's cat was on the downpipe and a bar steward to get to. on the VTS it is smaller and underneath the front floor pan.

Cars after a certain date (Aug 92, I believe) must have a cat converter when manufactured. HOWEVER, according to the quiz in UK MOT Magazine's website www.motester.co.uk (/motquizans/html) which has a quiz including this question, the vehicle WILL pass without it's catalytic converter as long as it meets the emission levels. Whether the car will reach these levels without the electronic feedback most catalysts send to the engine management computers (allowing them to constantly adjust the engine settings) I am not qualified to say.
