bus lanes

Can anyone tell me,if you are driving along a road that used to be a duel carriageway but is now a bus lane and a single lane,is it ok to go into the bus lane if there is a junction and there are people waiting to turn right or do you have to wait in the queue behind them if you wish to go straight ahead?

I don't want to try this and find out the hard way with a �100 fine!

You cannot enter the bus lane unless ordered to do so by a copper, you have to wait for the people to turn right

Or if it's a part time bus lane, ie between certain hours in the day

the bus lanes here in aberdeen most of them are partime you'd be surprised at how much drivers do not know how to use them properly. they drive in them when they're not supposed to and don't drive in them when they are

some bus lanes stop short of the junctions to overcome the problem of vehicles turning right and vehicles behind having to wait

I found out the hard way - in London - at traffic lights the bus lane ended so I moved to the left to go straight ahead. Alas the other side of the traffic lights the bus lane immediately resumed leaving me stuck. Needless to say all the traffic which was in the right-hand lane were going straight on and wouldn`t let me out. I really had no option but to drive in the bus lane until I could get out. Of course two weeks later the fine arrived - now I just keep out of bus lanes by remembering that the left hand lane may turn into a bus lane without warning.
