No road tax quandry??

Quandry. A friend(no really) bought a car locally, no road tax and left it outside my house. A gentleman !! from DVLA arrived a was putting a ticket on it when I said I would move it. AT NO POINT DID I SAY IT WAS MINE, I merely said I would move it. The car was not registered in mine or my friends name (still previous owners) Now I have recieved a summons for no tax. AM I LIABLE ? Thanks to everyone in advance.
