The system has a return pipe so just spinning it on the starter will get the fuel pumping through if you have a mechanical pump, if not try changing the filter and water trap. Sometimes the valve in the tank reserve pickup gets blocked and stops fuel when about full quarter tank.

Thanks Stanleyman. I'm told its an electrical pump (cant tow start with flat battery!) but I made sure the battery was well up and cranked the motor over and she fired reasonably quickly.
Must rember to fix the fuel gauge next.
