Ford Ka brake click sound

on my 52 reg ford Ka i hear a click sound a second after pressing the brake pedal. The sound comes from beneath the car (underneath the driver) and is audible inside the car with windows shut and in driving conditions. Brake function not affected. what could it be.

Could it be the electric switch attached to the pedal that turns the brake lights on when you press the pedal? Reverse up to a shop window so you can see and press the brakes. If the lights come on at the exact point you hear the click, perhaps that's it?

Have you had the original pads replaced with non standard parts ? If so, they can sometimes be a looser fit in the calipers and click when the caliper pistons impact with the pads as you apply the brakes.

I tried oldhamfans advice, sorry its not the lights.

derekpara yes i had the brake pads replaced about 3 months ago with generic non ford parts. maybe thats the reason.
