I have just brought a new boat and trailer and I am planning to buy a cheap seccond hand land rover to tow and launch the boat.

My girlfriend has a Kia Picanto and i saw on their website taht a tow bar can be fitted but would it have enough grunt to be safe and effective?

Hi,

The towing limit weight for a Kia Picanto is 700kgs so if your boat weighs less than that you will be ok but don't expect to win the traffic lights race!

Suggest you get a new girlfriend with a better car. Land Rover or Range Rover are the ideal towing vehicle. Four-wheel drive makes a big diffrence on loose or muddy banks and you need the car to be much heavier than what you are towing for safety. Girlfriends are pretty much disposable, Kia Picantos even more so.
She will probably dump you when her car rusts away with the salt water or sinks when it gets stuck on the slipway anyway, so I agree, get a new girl friend with a decent towing car. She wouldn't look at you twice if you had a crappy car and boat, I love this equality!
