Hi all

my Astra Mk III 1.4 1997 has an intermittant problem. When stopped at lights etc. the revs go up on their own. when this happens it is also very jerky to drive and has cut out now and again. Im sure its all connected but i dont know what the cause is. Anyone help me?

I don't actually know what sort of injection yours has (i'm no Astra guru), but it sounds very much like your idle control valve being gued up. Borrow someones hayes manual in how to remove the valve and clean it with some kerosene/petroleum. If it still sticks it might be the solenoid on it and prepare to pay a nice price for a replacement.

try a run without your air filter

Have tried that but as the problem is intermittant its difficult to know whether its had an effect. Vehicle is serviced regularly (twice a year) so all filters are clean.
check the pipe that runs from inlet manifold to map (manifold absolute pressure) sensor, this could be split or even blocked. can give the exact symptoms you describe.

when running ,, car is sucking, if cant suck air the car will suck fuel, stop at lights fuel burns, car rev,s up,floods, stall,s ect.take out air filter give a good run.check sensore,s blockage[air].i,ve sucked a rag into one,[i,am a van man, is this a petrol car];
