Just recently bought a 'w' reg Astra club (26k) and when I turn the steering wheel I hear a 'wheezing' sound, (probably related to the power steering) Is this likely to be a serious problem, anyone any ideas?- Thanks

Put some fluid in the power steering system. You probably have a small leak somewhere on the system.
Do you only get the noise on full lock ? If so, I think this is perfectly normal (Power steering pump)

As derek says it is normal if you get the noise only on full lock.

Don't put more fluid in if it is up to the correct level, do you have a leak?

Thanks Tourman, but i'm not sure where to find the reservoir, I haven't got the manual yet. But I would check the level first.
hi mate-used to work for vauxhall thought id pffer my advice-noise on full lock IS normal but these model had a problem with steering racks(which by the way is where the resevoir ir situated-towards the pass side) my advice would be to try topping it up first-with vauxhall approved oil-GREEN in colour-DO NOT USE THE RED STUFF! if noise still there get it checked out and try and get it done undre a warranty if u have one as these are not only expensive parts but big labour charges aswell!! good luck
