So Lets Shaft Our Farmers.....

Can anyone please advise me to what I have done to make the car stereo no longer work and is it possible for me to fix it or do I have to take it to a garage? I could not wait to put in the new stereo into my Peugeot 206, from Argos despite there being free fitting with the stereo. I will explain what I did step by step then hopefully someone will be able to help:
1) First I only connected the power connecters and the ariel to the back of the stereo( with the ignition turned off) and I did not push right back as I wanted to check that all the functions worked,(turned on the ignition) they did cd, radio, conected mp3. Succssess I Thought. Turned off and dissconected the connecters.
2) Then I secured the metal cassing into my car, connected the connecters again and pushed it right back . However this was difficult and I had to give a real hard push for it to be placed right back. Then I turned on the ignition, but there was no display I did push the reset button , but nothing. The only thing I was able to do was to eject the cd that I was previously listening to.
3) I did change the 10 amp red fuse at the back of the stereo from my old one, but this did nothing. I put the fuse back into the old stereo but again this did not work. Everything else in the car works , so thank God I havent messed up that.
Can anyone tell me what you think I have done and if it is very easy for me to change the fuse in the car . If not can I take it to Halfords and what is the likely cost going to be. Also does anyone know if I have damaged the new car stereo , as I am wondering If I tried to take it back to Argos am I going to get any problems with me fitting it.

Did the unit come with a wiring loom which plugged straight into the existing wiring loom or did you have to cut and join wires yourself? It is also very easy to trap a wire when pushing a head unit in which can damage the insulation and short out on the case etc. Did the original fuse actually blow - can you test it with a meter or see if it has blown. I will try and help as much as I can.
