Rust prevention - sacrificial anode

Does anyone know if using a scrificial/galvanic anode is practical as a 'rust prevention' technique for cars?

the annode will be of a higher reacting metal than the body of the car, hence the corrosion takes place on the annde, and not the car. all boats are fitted with them aswell, they are very cheep and efective
