Depends if it's used in conection with a business (for hire or reward) or just for personal use i.e. you moving house or transporting horses/motocross bikes etc

ugly bob. it depends on many things Has the van got a tacho? what business you are doing etc. then if you need one you could have to get a c.p.c.(certificate of professional competence) but again it depends what business. VOSA are in the process of changing the rules. Your best bet is to phone your local Traffic Area office and ask them. THey are very helpful and more than willing to help keep you on the right side of the law. Hers a list of all the offices.

Know I'd need one to drive a 7.5 tonne lorry for work, but wasn't sure if it applied to anything over 3.5 tonnes.
Haven't got vehicle. Need new van and was thinking about maybe getting 5 (or 5.5) tonne rather than 3.5 tonne.
