can anybody help me?my car started playing up 2 weeks ago.it just seems to have lost power and know it struggles to start so i changed the ht leads & plugs but to no avail,a friend connected his computer to test the engine and it came up with error 76 unknown.he said it could be my fuel filter but i have changed that but its still the same.could it be an electrical fault?if so what could it be?i have been told that there is 12 miles of cable in my car so what or where do i look?fuel is getting to the injectors and the plugs and leads are fine.anybody had any simalar problems?

I had a similar problem with a Vectra, it was the engine managment switching to a 'limp home' mode because it had detected a fault from a sensor (crank speed), replaced the sensor and all was well.

Tend to agree with the crank sensor theory, for some reason Fords are forever coming up with "code unknown".
Your best bet is to get the Haynes Engine Management manual from the library as this quotes all the sensor values & you can check them with a multimeter. Good luck!
