switch ignition on, press lock/unlock button twice, switch off ignition. that should do it.
I'm very interested in tomtech's answer because I changed the battery in my Renault Laguna (X reg - 2000) key and the Renault dealer said that to reprogram it would cost me 35. Were they 'aving a larf?
Very likely they were taking the michael.
tomtech's answer works for Vauxhalls as well.
tried switch ignition on solution on a peugeot 405 some time back- didn,t work
thanks guys I put in a new battery in key and resoldered a button back on the board but did not know how to reset it. peugot garage wanted 38 pounds. took me ten seconds. I did have to have the engine running for it to work. but thanks again.
I checked on a couple of other forums and found this that worked a treat:-
Put key in ignition and turn to 2nd stage.
Press and hold large button on the key - hold for approx 10secs.
Turn off ignition and remove key.
Test key - locking should work.
You will need to remove the battery from the key fob and wait for about a minute before re-inserting the battery and re-assembling the key fob.
The post I read said that this might not work first time but it did for me once I had removed the battery and waited for a couple of minutes.
Hope this helps - it saved me the best part of £40.

It was a chap calling himself SpannerSet on Ilexa.co.uk that provided this solution - Thanks to him for this.
