air conditioning in car

Does anyone know if you can have air con installed in a car months or years after manufacture, or does it have to be installed at time of manufacture?

If its possible to do ... Approx Costing would be appreciated..

I have a VW Beetle 52 plate. ( if that helps)

you can have it fitted,it would cost about �1200/1500,not worth it.

the price isnt too bad.... it would at least save me 9K on a new car..... i love my current VW and have no intentions on selling it apart from it lacking in the air con....

it might be cheaper at a air con place,the price i said was if vw did it,why worry the summers over now

if you want a cheap alternative;
a couple of fixing brackets, a dc converter, and a small office air conditioner...
It'll cost you about 300 beans, and you can take it in your house too!
