M4 - Speed Cameras

I was at the Welsh end of the M4 at the wekend, travelling to Cardiff, and taking the first Bristol exit, so not on there for long.

I noticed there were speed camera signs on the M4 heading easr, althougb I didn't notice any sigs coming west.

I remember there was uproar last year when they planned to put speedos on the M4, and they're on the M1as well.

Wher are the cameras on the M4 (I don't go on the M1), and are there any plans to put them on the M3, M5, and M6?

In the absence of contary information, I think it would be safe to assume there are plans to put them on every motorway.

And just think of the possibilities if the 'national' speed limit on 'rural roads' is cut to 40, as was proposed today.

Mobile cameras are used, on bridges over the motorway, so it's impossible to list exact locations.

Most new speed camera systems, however, use 'speed averaging' cameras, which are placed at 1 mile intervals and record the average speed over that distance. The A14 has had them for years. Hopefully, they'll eventually be introduced along the full length of all motorways and major trunk routes.
