battery exploded?

anyone help, recently replaced the regulator on my alternator on my renault clio, checked the charge before and was only charging at 10v checked after replaced regulator now charging at 14.2v, so all seems well, howver today looked upbder bonnet and battery hand slip and cracked and a chunk had blown apart. replaced regulator yesterday any ideas???

Well seeing as you have to buy a new battery anyway just fit a new one and check the charging as soon as it is fitted, if it appears OK then just keep checking it every now and then for a couple of weeks.
