Never really knew where to post this, but, does anyone know if your on a canal boat can you drink and erm.....steer??? Silly question i know but its smething ive always wondered. I live near a pub, on the side of a canal and everyone that goes in there, comes out looking merry.....lol!!! Do they have a drunken driving policy?
It is illegal to be drunk in charge of any vessel on British Waterways.
How stringently it is applied, and what the definition of 'drunk' is, I don't know.
I have had many holidays on the Norfolk Broads and seen a lot of very merry people steering their boats. The Police only seem to get involved if the behaviour is an obvious danger or disturbance.
monster, there are river plod on the broads!! and they have speed guns!!!
"excuse me sir, do you know how fast you were going?"
"no hang on officer i'll throw a stick over the side and see how fast it floats away!"
" four mph sir, limit is three. that means you were over the limit by25%. it's the gang plank for you, matey!!"
