Glowing Red Polo Paintwork/Rust

Morning All! Now then, I have recently purchased a second hand VW Polo ('98/'99) and the paintwork is so splendidly laquered that You Would Even Say it Glows. HOWEVER, on the sills of the front doors, and on the window frame of the passenger front door, there are rust spots, perhaps 1-2" diameter. Now, given that I don't want them to expand, but nor do I want them to look "patched up", what can I do? Is the only recourse to seek professional help
