Before we put new tyres on the front of my wifes '02 Fiesta it drove perfectly staright up the road with no pull to either side - since putting two new tyres on the front it now pulls to one side - why, and how do we correct it ?

take it back to where the tyres were fitted, they might not have balanced them properly.
Take them back as it seems one of the tyres might have a slight deveation in the tread pattern as in it is not perfect tread face ie were they have been sitting around stacked up or the tyre is not fitted correctly hope this helps....
sounds like the wheels are no longer parallell, take it back and complain.
Get the tracking checked as well, poor alignment is often the cause of pulling to one side, It may not have been noticeable on the previous tyres due to uneven wear
Have you checked the tyre pressures ? Uneven pressures will cause the car to pull to one side.
It might be that the tracking is now out of adjustment - but this would normally be due to a blow to the front suspension. You did stay with the car while the tyres were fitted, didn't you ? If not then there's every chance that the tracking (front wheel alignment) was put out of whck by a joy-riding tyre fitter ! The other alternative is that one of the tyres has been fitted the wrong way around - inside out, or backwards if you like. Tyres are marked with a small dot to show which wall goes to the inside rim and which to the outside, or some are marked with the direction of rotation. Not all tyre fitters pay attention to this, and guess what the symptom is ? ? ?
