Red cars

I notice a number of red cars with faded paint work. Is there a particular problem regarding the make up of red paint or are the red ones just more noticeable?

This can be seen when people put up notices where a word or two are in red for emphasis. After a time in the sun, the red fades, sometimes to the point where it is invisible. No doubt a scientist will be along soon to tell us why.

Isn't red the most common car colour too, in which case you possibly just see more of them.

too true, mine is red, with a pink back and roof - despite several workings over with T-cut and any other colour restorer, its back to pinkish within a couple of weeks !! the bonnet and doors though are brilliantly red (which makes it look even worse):-(

My M reg purple corsa's paintwork is badly faded too. No amount of T-cutting will restore it to its original glory. I suspect that in the first few years I used wax polish far too often and have built up a formidable film which is in fact the problem.

Have had two red cars and both faded, especially on bonnet and roof (under direct sunlight) this is why the doors don't fade much.
WILL NEVER HAVE ANOTHER RED CAR. NOW WITH BLACK.

red is an instable colour. It will always fade with time.

It's to do with the amount of lead that used to be used to manufacture red paint which is no longer allowed. Apparently? That's why it's only much older red cars keep their colour better...
