Caught Speeding - Advice Needed.

I already have 3 points on my licence for a speeding fine.

Last Monday I went through some road works, I though some road works on the M4 westbound (Eastbound had been cancelled due to bank holiday) so I assumed the same for the Westbound but I think I might have been flashed cant be 100% sure though.

Now rather annoyingly I got another speed summons yesterday for another incident...

If my M4 one comes through I am going to be looking at 9 points and 3 flashes in 3 months, after nothing in 10 years I am a bit gutted to put it nicely.

I do a fair bit of driving through my job.

Any advice would be most appreciated on how to get out of the points or just to keep my licene

Surely you won't be losing your licence with 9 points - unless some of your speeding was way over the limit.

No all within 20 mph of speed limit.

I thought 9 points was the level that you lost licence?

If you notch up 12 points you are likely to lose your licence under the totting rules.

If you were doing 50 in a 30 limit, this might go before magistrates (I've forgotten the exact formula). Excessive speeding does. JudgeJ always answers speeding Qs, and he'll know.

If you were caught on camera and the offences have genuinely been committed by you (and you give no indication that they have not) then there is little to no chance that you will avoid points on your licence.

Assuming that your speed was not so excessive as to be beyond the fixed penalty (FP) limits you should accept the FPs offered. If both offences are processed this means 9 �active� points on your licence which will remain active until three years after the first offence was committed. Any further endorseable offence you commit before that date (for which you are not specifically disqualified for that offence alone) will add a minimum of three points to your licence. This will make you liable to a mandatory six-month disqualification under the �totting up� procedure.

The totting up procedure was designed specifically to discourage drivers from committing a series of minor driving offences, and the circumstances in which you find yourself were just those envisaged when the legislation was drafted.

As Catso says, the best (and indeed only) way to ensure you retain your licence is to drive within the speed limits at all times.

if you are not new driver you lose your licence on 12 points if you are a new driver ie not been driving for more than 2 years it is 6 points

When I go through roadworks where they have speed restrictions in place, I get very annoyed at drivers (like Yourself) flouting the speed limit.

You seem to think you can do exactly as you like without ever having to take the rap for your actions.

I hope they throw the book at you.
