i purchased a peugeot 206 cd player from ebay, had trouble getting it working before discovering the fuse was missing, but now the stereo keeps beeping annoyingly after about five seconds of switching it on. is this a security device? if so how do i rectify it? and most importantly, is it gonna cost me a bomb?

Was it sold as in working order? If so, I should contact the seller. If you paid through Paypal and you think you have been sold a faulty item, there is a procedure for doing a chargeback to recover your money. I have given up on buying electrical goods on ebay. Too many problems.
Possibly This is the problem:
New peugeot radios fitted to the late 206 and the majority of 307 were coded to the car they were originally fitted to. This means any attempt to put in another car results in a regular bleep every 5 secs or so.
The only cure is a visit to a Peugeot dealer, with proof of ownership of the CD player, and they will tell the radio to accept the new vehicle. (For a fee of course)
