engine smell

after i have been driving my car the last couple of days the engine smells. when u get out the car, you can smell it all around the car i cant really describe the smell i just know its not right. i opened the bonnet and it was really strong. is it overheating maybe, do i need to check the coolant or summat?? thanks

Could be coolant, that smells quite strongly if it leaks.
Check your hoses and look for steam.
Could it be the catalytic converter ? They can be a bit pongy at times. Wait for Loosehead et al to advise, I'm just an enthusiastic amateur.
Brakes binding, clutch slipping - the list is endless
oil leak.. dripping onto the exhaust?
Cat fallen asleep somewhere under the bonnet?
Oil breather pipe, Dirt/filth on the down pipe.
