Car Insurance
Is it legal for someone to insure a car that is registered to someone else. For example, the car is in my name but my father would be the insured one with me as an additional driver?
Thanks
Thanks

I know this because a couple of years ago my husband took out the credit agreement onhis car, he got paid more. However I had a greater no claims bonus so I insured the car. He was listed as the main driver. I then got a smaller car, registered in my name, and he insured it, with me as the main driver.
I stand corrected but it doesn't make sense to me as it means if you insure a car that isn't yours and it gets written off then the payment would come to you and the owner would get nothing. Good luck though if this works as it means a young driver could own a car and could build up no claims as a named driver if one of the parents has a policy for it which would be a lot cheaper than a young driver policy. I assume this shiznit's situation.
Thanks guys, I hope it is legal in the end. The reason is I ask is, I have just finished a driving ban, I was over the limit the day after a night out, and I am now looking for ato buy a BMW as I had before the ban, most insurance companies will not touch me even though I had, and still do not have any points and have never been in trouble with the law before.
I find it a bit annoying that there are no levels of DUI, as I was only just over the limit and if I had not been hit by someone else in an accident, it would been no problem. I am treated though, the smae as someone who had delibrately driven after dinking.
Don't judge me too harshly, I know that drink driving is a serious offence, and it was stupid of me to drive after a night out, I can assure you all that it is definately something I will not be doing again.
Thanks for all your answers

Thanks Gef, I am aware of that mate, that is the reason for the question, I told the insurance companys and like I said they wont touch me, hence that is why I am looking for someother way to insure the car.
It will have to be a ford KA otherwise, bit of a come down me thinks, thanks for your answer though.

Thats ok mate, if I was the sole driver or main insured they will not insure me or to put it better give me a quote, some will however but at avery inflated rate.
If my Dad is down as the main driver or main insured and I am merly an occasional user (honest copper), it is alot more affordable, believe me. just not sure about the legality of it thats all
Hope this clears it up
