Unusual number plate

I recently overtook a vehicle with the number plate which read LONDON. Does anyone know if this is a legal registration?

no it is not a legal number plate ,it is a plate with nos and letters made to read london and it is illegal to do this accorrding to the dvla. it is most probably LON 8ON a old no plate from the 1980s.

LON 80N would have been issued 1974/5.

I recall that the vehicle was in fact left hand drive. So perhaps it was a foreign registration plate. Any thoughts anyone?

LON 80N does not come up registered with the DVLA

so I doubt it's that

Similarly I dont see LON 88N or L 811 DDN etc

LO11 DON with a screw cover between the two 1's to make it look like an "N" ? Could be anything - the permutations are endless when you see what some people do to make their number plate look like something it isn't

That won't be used until 2011 almcd007 and the old style would not use a leading 0 so it would be L11 DON.

I meant L zero and not L O - I've tried loads of variations and nothings come up. It may have had a show plate on it and a trade plate in the window - or not !

That's what I'm saying there would not be L zero 11 they never had leading zeroes.

I may be wrong!

But there are some reg. plates that will not show up on the RAC search. I know one that belongs to a 'star' and it has not shown up on the search and I know that it is in existence.

I hope the email reply system still gets this alerted. Any plate which is all letters is a foreign custom plate, some allow free rein like America, which have the familiar small plates, and Sweden which are like UK but white both ends, and others let the second part be created while keeping the local code first as in Poland. Sweden is the likeliest in London but if you can let me know the colour and print format/size that will eliminate many other possibilities.
