Dear all, I'm considering buying a 1997 (P) Primara 1.6 GX from someone i know for my wife as a family wagon. Its done 61k miles and has been serviced regularly althought the service book hasn't been stamped but there are some reciepts. The car doesn't seem to have a mark on it - just needs a good vallet. I really wanted to know what people's opions were on this car and whether anyone had any experience of one. I looked up the Parkers guide price as most of the other guides only covered cars back to 98 and it valued it at 830 in good condition (ie MOT & fsh). I thought 750 might be a fair price? i dont want to upset the guy by offering him a low price but dont want to pay ott either. I have seen a few in the Auto Trader and they have been around the 850 - 900 mark but theres not many about. Also can anyone tell me if the car has a timing belt or chain as i dint see a timing belt cover like on my Escort so I thought maybe it was a chain. Thanks in advance for any comments. Jay
Primera is a generally good all-round buy......very reliable and probably well worth the 750 you mentioned.
Not a car to get excited about performance-wise as it's only a 1.6 but if it's as good as you describe then go for it.
Many thanks to all who replied. The performance doesn't bother me too much as I'm used to a 1.4 Escort which 74bhp and i think the Nissan is 102bhp so it chould at least feel no slower i would guess.
I got a modest miles P Almera. Comfy, reliable, cheap, boring, a bit plasticky inside (eg one or two dashboard bits are brittle and bits can snap off!) I'd have another, anyday.
