Hi All,

I am looking at buying a VW Passat 2004 - 45000 miles on the clock, do you think I should get the cam belt checked or am I safe to wait for a year for the next service? it comes with a service history.

I panic that I would pay out 6k for the car and then find the belt goes as I know thats a big job, but dont want to pay out a garage for no reason

Thanks,
Steve

45k is a lot of miles in 2 yrs
negotiate hard and get the seller pay for some or all of the cost of the cam belt change...or walk away
Depending on the vehicle VW recommend replacement at 60k miles. Should be ok for a year as long as u r not doing loads of miles. Could still use it as a bargining tool though
