Car Radio Reception

I am unable to recieve a good lw/mw signal from my car radio - when trying to listen to radio five all I can hear is what sounds like the sound of a racing car engine accelerating as I accelerate ! any ideas what might be wrong ?? My FM signal is fine..... Thankyou !

When I had this problem on my car, I was told it was a faulty aerial which when replaced, solved the problem.

This kind of thing also occurs where the ignition has a faulty condenser (which absorbs electrical spikes such as arcing across the points).
If no significant problems in the ignition system can be found, you can get an inline choke fitted into the radio 12 volt power supply lead, which stops the electrical interference getting into the radio from that path.
