Can anyone tell me why when I lock my new Golf with the remote it doesn't go "bleep" like everyone else's on televisions does. i refer to Joe Mills' Golf in Judge John Deed in particular, it never fails!
It's not a one off cos my Cherokee doesn't do it either, Am I doing something wrong?

Working in the trade I have noticed this for ages, many TV programs have the car "bleep" on locking the doors.
In reality hardly any factory fitted alrams/central locking make a noise any more, wierd.
when i had an alarm fitted to my car the guy said that the beep can be turned up or down and as i leave my house at 5.20 each morning i asked for it to be turned down. perhaps your alarm has this facility but is turned off? if you ask the manufacturer they may be able to tell you if this is so or maybe it is deemed unneccassary nowadays and no longer a function on the alarm.
If you watch the ones on TV closely you can tell the beeps have been dubbed on the soundtrack as they are not quite in synch with the person pressing the remote.

My car does not beep, just the indicators blink, most cars don't beep now, noise nuisance reasons.
My VW dealer turned on the alarm bleep on my 03 Golf; a portable computer was plugged into the data port and the whole job took about 2 minutes. The mechanic said that many changes can be made to the car's default settings, including having the doors lock at 10mph. I imagine the same can be done on the latest Golf, though I haven't had it done on mine as bleeping alarms are naff anyway.
