It does sound a bit steep. i Was charged 150 for a pair doing. i have the 1.9 tdi passat on a v plate. basically the same car. I insisted on vw parts though. as i had tried to do it myself previously. im no mechanic but im no numpty either. needed specialist tools to take the axel out apparently. so i used a aftermarcked boot cut it and glued it back after fitting it. (like the universal ones) it lasted about a year. but then i could afford the 150. the cv joints on them are short and wide. so the uni boot didnt fit. and the local motor factors couldnt find a snugg fitting boot.
sorry im rambling. what im trying to say is get it done properly. its woth it.
